Torres Construction performs a large percentage of its work in schools, and currently has numerous master contracts with the Los Angeles Unified School District, (LAUSD), which is the second largest school district in the United States, with an average capacity of 750,000 students covering a 710 square mile radius. In both size and scope, the District is bigger than many municipalities, and its annual facilities budget is comparable to that of a large city. Torres currently performs Job Order Contracts (JOC) contracts that are valued up to $10 million and in 2008, was the highest volume JOC contractor performing work for LAUSD’s $20 billion school construction and modernization program. LAUSD is in the process of building 132 new schools, 70 new school additions, and 20,000 modernization and repair projects throughout Los Angeles County. Torres Construction has performed 567 of these modernization and repair projects while competing against some of the nation’s largest JOC contractors.
